How Is The Dell 3008wfp 30 Inch Ultrasharp Monitor For Gaming?

i ordered the Dell 3008WFP 30 inch UltraSharp monitor to hook up my playstation with. ive yet to receive it but i am fairly excitied and wanted some feedback from people who may know a little about this sort of thing. should I be impressed with moving up from a 27" mitsubishi?

The 3008WFP is a very nice monitor indeed.
However, I think it’s way overkill for the PS3. Remember the PS3 can only go up to 1920×1080 resolution over its HDMI cable, which carries only a single-link DVI video signal (limited to 1920×1080).
The 3008WFP displays 2560×1600 resolution and requires a dual-link DVI signal to work at that resolution, which the PS3 cannot do. When the monitor scales up the 1920×1080 signal from the PS3 to display it at 2560×1600, you will see some pixilation. (I don’t think you will be impressed).
The optimum monitor / TV for use with the PS3 would be something that does 1920×1080 resolution. For the PS3, a 52″ LCD HDTV that does 1080p actually works better than the 3008WFP.
Hook up that 3008WFP to a computer that has a dual-link DVI video card, and I think you will be impressed.
Call DELL and ask them what LCD monitor they recommend for use with the PS 3.
Just keep in mind that LCD Monitors only look gorgeous when using their FACTORY preset “Native Resolution”. So, if the PS 3’s maximum video card resolution is 1280 X 1024, for example, that’s what you need to BUY.
TIP: Since you ordered it already, cal them now and see if you can cancel your order.
Well, I'd recommend a Quad Core. By 2k10 it will be the recommended CPU. So that will give you a head start.
Stick with 2GB RAM. Just upgrade it later on when you really need more. Motherboard? I'd say Asus. But thats just me. Just make sure it has 4 to 6 RAM slots for future upgrades.
Graphics Card? If you're not splurging, I'd recommend the 9600 GT 1GB. Make sure its HDMI compatible, in case you wanna take that baby on to high-def
As for disk space, as much as possible. 800GB can go a really long way now with games getting bigger and bigger.
DVD drive, and two extra fans. Thats it. You're good to go. Good Luck

The cheaper monitor (E207WFP) actually has a much better response time than the 2007. What it lacks is the variety of inputs like s-vhs and component, but since you're using this on a computer, it's unlikely to matter. It also lacks the nicer, height adjustable stand and builtin USB hub.
Resolution is identical as is size. If price is more important than any of those features I mentioned, go for the E207WFP for sure.

For what you are talking about, there really arn't a lot of things that I can think of that would fit for what you want. One I can think of is response time. This will impact the time you have to react to situations in games so the lower the response time the better. I would go for somewhere around 8 milliseconds or lower. Other than that, there really isn't much that fits what you want. Brightness and contrast, stuff like that doesn't really make a difference because they are all about the same and can be adjusted anyway. If you want higher quality go for a DVI monitor instead of VGA, but once again a game will work just as good on VGA so this really isn't a big deal, but is better for the occasional movie.
One thing that you might look at is whether or not the screen is protected with a glass coating. If it is, there will often be a glare where there would not be if you didn't have the glass. If you want to touch the monitor a lot, get the glass, if not, then don't. I have a non glass one and have had no problems except the occasional friend that pokes it and it messes with the color. Just be careful.
Other than these things, I can't think of anything that will be a big deal for gaming. All monitors come with certain resolutions that games support so no big deal here either. I have a basic LCD that I use for games and have no problems with it, everything works great! Basically, pick the monitor you want, it should work good.

At the time I bought the 2209WA there were no 24″ IPS panel monitors in the $200-300 price range. Another thing is I use it in a dual monitor setup with an older Samsung 19″ LCD and they match rather nicely for design and vertical height. But yep, I would love 24″ or even 27″ inches of IPS monitor love. I think I would zoom in and out a lot less in both photoshop and layout software if I had a 27″.

Adventure quest you will be fine with, same with Runescape. Runescape has revamped there graphics quiet a lot since I played them back when I was like 13 haha, but the good with about it now, is you are able to fool around to find the best looking game with the best performance for your system now.
I ordered mine 20 DAYS AGO! Under DELL India’s so called “VIP” Program. Supposed to take 4 days to ship. Guess what? I HAVN’T GOTTEN IT YET! On top of that, I had to buy it for 1669 USD thanks to taxes. Damn, I cant wait.
The i7 is the best technology out there right now and itll last you quite awhile.

I would go with the 24 because it is slightly larger AND you do get the better resolution.
They BOTH have DVI if youve looked at the tech specs though.
USB ports arent really necessary on the monitor since that i7 XPS SHOULD have more than enough usb ports for you already.
