Can a Laptop with dedicated GeForce 8400GM support high-resolution 24 inch monitor?

I have a ZT notebook computer with a Geforce 8400GM graphics card that has 256MB memory. I plan to purchase a 24". I know that by having an HDMI will support it. How about running it from a VGA port? I have a friend who has a 30" monitor connected to a DVI on his desktop computer. Or should I go with a 4:3 monitor like a 20" or 19"? I'll be using this with AutoCad.

I have a feeling anything heavy CAD will bring it to it’s knees, especially when outputting to a 24″ monitor.
I don’t you’ll get very far with integrated graphics, and if the monitor has hdmi, it must pretty high end, I wouldn’t use it on anything with a res higher than 1280×800.
